Douglas County prosecutors have dismissed one charge of being a principal to murder against a South Lake Tahoe man arrested in the killing of a hotel maid.
Evan Garcia, 23, still faces a charge of helping Ramiro Vasquez Galicia violate a domestic violence order, Deputy District Attorney Mark Jackson said.
Galicia, 35, is charged with murder for the death of his estranged girlfriend, 22-year-old Jazmin Gonzales, at the Horizon Hotel and Casino.
Garcia is accused of renting the room where the woman was found
dead Nov. 19. But authorities said they can't prove he knowingly
participated in the killing.
According to investigators, Galicia hid in a closet in the room in an attempt to talk to Gonzales, who left him in September and got a restraining order against him. But the encounter turned violent, and the woman was found beaten and stabbed to death.
Galicia is being held in the El Dorado County jail in California pending extradition on a murder charge.
