The state is opening an international trade office in Singapore in an effort to increase trade and investment between the two countries, Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt said.

The State of Nevada Business and Trade Representative office in Singapore will become official with a signing ceremony Monday in the Gov.'s Conference Room in Las Vegas.

The office stems from a recently signed free-trade agreement between the United States and Republic of Singapore.

"Nevada continues to reach out to the global marketplace as part of our economic development diversification," said Hunt, who also serves as chairperson of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development.

As Nevada's 14th largest trading partner, Singapore also is the gateway to Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia for Nevada's exports.

The new office will assist Singapore businesses interested in doing business in Nevada.
