A motorcyclist's body was found in the Truckee River in Reno, more than five hours after the victim was involved in a crash, officers said.
Police said the body of James Grieve, 21, of Reno, was found more than a mile downstream from the accident scene.
He apparently struck a concrete barrier on the river's McCarran Bridge about 2:15 a.m. and was ejected over the barrier into the river, officers said. Police initially found the motorcycle but not the rider.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the accident and that speed might have contributed to it.
An autopsy later Saturday by the Washoe County coroner determined Grieve died of multiple injuries consistent with a traffic accident.
The victim was wearing a helmet.
Thousands of motorcyclists are in Reno for the annual Street Vibrations motorcycle festival.
