The Reno airport just got a little more tourist-friendly.
People trekking from the gates to the baggage claim area and vehicle rental counters will go past a 495-square-foot welcome center.
The room - sporting scenes of wildlife, hot air balloons, classic cars and snowcapped mountains - contains informational fliers and books, videocassettes, digital video discs and Internet access about popular tourist activities, special events, business opportunities and relocation.
Volunteers will staff the center, which is a partnership between the city of Reno, Airport Authority of Washoe County and Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority. The Airport Authority is charging the city $1 a year for the space vacated by a travel agency years ago.
About one-third of visitors to the Reno area arrive by air.
