Fire Restrictions To Be Lifted

By: Associated Press

Despite this week's record warm temperatures, fire management officers are lifting fire restrictions on public lands in the Sierra and western Nevada.

Starting Wednesday, the ban on open campfires, off-road vehicle use and other recreational activities will expire on land overseen by the Bureau of Land Management's Carson City Field Office, the Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the Nevada Division of Forestry Sierra Fire Protection District.

The officers said the restrictions that have been in effect since June 13 are being relaxed because the days are growing shorter, fuel moisture levels are increasing and temperatures are fooling off at night.

They note that vegetation still is very dry and urge people to be careful with campfires, smoking and use of ATVs.
