RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a man killed when his van slammed into the back of a tanker truck while traffic was stalled on Interstate 80 because of an accident.
The patrol says 31-year-old Derek Manoguerra of Grass Valley, Calif., was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday morning.
Investigators say Manoguerra was traveling east when he came upon the backed-up traffic near downtown. His 2000 Mazda van crashed into the tanker truck and rolled over.
The truck was hauling diesel fuel but there was no leak. The truck driver, 47-year-old Elliot Mergler of Marysville, Calif., was not injured.
