Two hostages got out safely and a suicidal suspect is in custody after a six-hour stand-off with police in Sparks.

Police used tear gas and a Taser gun to subdue the suspected parole violator in the stand-off that started about four o'clock yesterday afternoon and forced the evacuation of six neighboring apartments.

Police say that when Ted Henderson finally emerged from an apartment (on Merchant Street) about 10 o'clock last night, he held a knife to his throat and a suicide note in his other hand.

He was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where he is being
treated for a self-inflicted cut to his throat.

Police say he will be booked into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of violating his parole and resisting officers with a deadly weapon.
