Washoe County sheriff's deputies were searching Friday for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl under the pretext of hiring her as a baby sitter.
Michael Botelho, 42, Dayton, is wanted on a warrant for kidnapping, batter and sexual assault. He's accused of assaulting the girl near the south end of Washoe Lake on Aug. 7.
Botelho allegedly made contact with the girl by placing a newspaper ad for a baby sitter in Carson Valley, Sheriff Dennis Balaam said in a statement Friday.
The suspect picked her up, then drove to a secluded area near the lake north of Carson City where he allegedly attacked her. He later learned he was under investigation and fled the area, leaving his wife and two small children behind, the sheriff said.
He returned to his residence Thursday and picked up his wife and children before fleeing again, Balaam said. He's believed to be driving a Red 2000 Ford Explorer with Nevada license plates 398-MAN.
Botelho is described as a 5-10, 215-pound, white male. Investigators said he has family and friends in Fernley, Yerington, Smith Valley, Northern California and Hawaii.
