Authorities report a wildfire near the Evans Ridge Estates and Caughlin Ranch subdivisions in Western Reno is expected to be fully contained. The fire came within a quarter mile of residences, according to officials. Homes on Ridgeview Drive were "briefly threatened," according to a news release. The fire is believed to have covered about 250 to 300 acres. No mandatory evacuations were ordered, but a witness reported people left their homes in the area of Buckhaven Road in the pre-dawn hours. The fire was reported around 4:30 a.m. Saturday. The cause of the fire is under investigation. One resident said his power went off. Sierra Pacific said power has been re-routed to some customers and no homes should be without power. No homes or buildings are believed to have been damaged by the blaze. A Reno Fire Department spokesman said most crews were de-mobilized by Saturday evening.
Two smaller fires were also reported Saturday. A 12 to 13 acre fire off the Mt. Rose highway near Galena High School was contained at about 6:30 a.m. A 15 acre fire near North Virginia Street and Golden Valley in North Reno was contained at about the same time.
