Five women have sued Carson-Tahoe Hospital, claiming they were molested while under the care of an emergency room nurse.

The suit accuses the Carson City hospital of negligence and malpractice, and seeks unspecified damages of more than $10,000.

A hospital spokesman declined comment.

The five women were under the care of Jason Laurie, who no longer is employed by the hospital, the suit says.

Laurie, 29, of Gardnerville, awaits a March 8 trial in Carson District Court after pleading innocent to 10 counts of drugging and molesting seven patients.

Laurie, who was arrested in February, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts but sentencing was postponed on those charges until after the trial.

The suit alleges Laurie gave the women "cocktails of controlled substances" before he molested them and that the hospital failed to ensure the safety of its patients.

The hospital also failed to conduct a review to ensure its medications are properly dispensed and failed to thoroughly investigate the alleged assaults, the suit claims.

The suit includes the husband of one of the women as a plaintiff.

Laurie was arrested after two female patients complained they were sexually violated by a nurse while under sedation.

Sheriff's investigators said Laurie was questioned when he arrived for work and confessed to violating both women. He was fired after the arrest.

Laurie was president of the nursing class of 2001 at Western Nevada Community College in Carson City.
