Jeffery Randal Sims, 34, has been charged with murder and robbery, according to Reno Police.

Police said they responded to a murder at an apartment building at 617 Kuenzli Street in downtown Reno at about 4 p.m. Thursday. Authorities said 38-year-old Joan Varley, who worked at the apartment building, was bludgeoned to death in the apartment office in a robbery.

Lt. Jon Catalano said based on evidence police found, they believe Sims is responsible.

Police said during their investigation, officers looked for the victim's car, which was not at the apartment building.

Catalano said an officer saw the car on the road and a police chase began. He said police lost sight of the car momentarily, then found it parked at the LakeMill Lodge, at the intersection of Lake and Mill Streets downtown. Officers began a room-by-room search there. A KOLO-TV photographer observed at least one officer with a gun drawn.

Catalano said Sims was found with another man in a third floor room. The man Sims was found with was questioned and released.
