A 71-year-old Reno man was arrested after his car plowed into a restaurant in Sparks.

Police said damage to the Isan Thai Restaurant was substantial, but there were no injuries because it was closed at the time.

Mike Kelly was booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and reckless driving after the accident Sunday afternoon.

He's accused of driving his 1991 Lincoln Continental through the front doors and well into the restaurant on North McCarran Boulevard.

Kelly, who was found uninjured behind the wheel, told police he did not know what happened.

Witnesses said the car traveled at a high rate of speed across the parking lot and a sidewalk before entering the restaurant.

Special construction equipment was called to the scene to place support posts so the building would not collapse.

The 2 p.m. accident is under investigation.
