Millions of Americans are traveling this holiday weekend. Right here in Nevada, AAA predicts more than 250,000 people will head 50 miles or more from home.

And I have learned that patience is the key during this busy travel weekend.

For air travelers the busiest days are today and Sunday. But if you're hitting the road, give yourself some extra time . . . as the majority of drivers will be heading out tomorrow.

AAA predicts 84 percent of Nevadans who travel this Thanksgiving will be getting behind the wheel to make their trek.

"I'm going to San Jose, looking for a 6-hour drive. But you gotta go? Gotta see mom and dad," says driver Jeff Helfand.

While the forecast calls for clear skies, drivers should carry a phone, and extra food, water and blankets.

And, says Lisa Foster, AAA Spokesperson: "Buckle up and buckle your children up."

Local police will have extra patrols looking for seatbelt violations, and drunk drivers.

"If you do have to go somewhere hopefully they're out there keeping an eye on people and making sure its safe to be on the road," says driver Lanean Britton.

For those taking flight, take note . . . Homeland Security officials say the threat of another terror attack remains high, so be vigilant.

Brian Turmail of TSA syas : "This is the Super Bowl of air travel."

Travel analysts say this will be the busiest travel holiday since 9/11 - and a new trend is emerging.

"More people are using this time ot get away. People are going to the mountains, the beach, and not just their relatives' homes for Thanksgiving dinner."

And whether you go by ground or by air, to join family or take a vacation, you'll join some 36 million people nationwide taking a trip this Turkey Day.

Happy Thanksgiving!

So far no major delays here at the airport today, although Interstate 80 over mountains has been backed up most of the day. The best bet is to leave early and bring some music or a book keep you from geting too stressed out.
