A man charged with shooting and wounding a Reno police officer after a traffic stop has pleaded guilty to attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

Koo Kwang Jung faces a possible sentence of 4-40 years in prison when sentenced Jan. 30, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Officer Timothy Avilla pulled Jung over March 31 for driving his pickup without headlights.

After seeing a shell casing and bullet in the vehicle, the officer searched Jung and found a gun in Jung's waistband, police said.

Jung managed to grab the gun and held Avilla at gunpoint, demanding the officer return his driver's license and ordering him to walk behind a building.

Avilla was shot three times in the arm but fired back, wounding Jung.

Jung later told police he was despondent over marital and financial problems when he exchanged shots with the officer.
