Authorities from Reno, Sparks, Washoe County and the state of Nevada targeted people with warrants for domestic violence and related crimes in a sweep Thursday.

The operation coincides with domestic violence awareness month. Sgt. Greg Curry of the Reno Police Department said most of those targeted were accused of domestic violence or failing to comply with court orders, related to domestic violence.

"They like to say: 'I've already taken care of it, you know, I was here last month, they never told me I had a warrant,'" Reno Police officer Amanda Hartshorn said.

Marshals and other authorities searched for suspects at their homes, their friends' homes and their employers. Thursday afternoon Curry said roughly 40 people had been rounded up since Wednesday.

Curry said last year 53 people were nabbed. He said the program has proved so successful Reno Police intend to conduct monthly domestic violence sweeps.
