Washoe County School District trustees have unanimously approved construction of a $26 million middle school in Cold Springs.
But the decision Tuesday night angered some Sun Valley residents, who say a new school is desperately needed in their community.
The Cold Springs school is expected to open in 2007.
Trustee Lezlie Porter promised Sun Valley residents their community would be considered seriously for a middle school scheduled for a 2006 construction start.
School Board Vice President Dan Carne said the decision to build in Cold Springs was driven by enrollment data.
A staff report said the elementary school and middle school in Stead where Cold Springs students attend are both over capacity and would face critical overcrowding because of existing and planned housing development.
