Outdoor Games Not Returning to Reno In 2004

The ESPN Great Outdoor Games won't be coming back to Reno next year, organizers said Thursday.

Though Reno and the Sierra Nevada provided a good backdrop for the televised games, organizers said they will hold the 2004 event elsewhere to generate increased interest and exposure.

"In order for the event to reach its full potential, we need to move it around the country," said Eric Matijevich, ESPN's director of the games.

The news was disappointing for Reno-area tourism officials, who were hoping to lure the games back next year.

Organizers haven't said where the games will be going.

The Great Outdoor Games feature competitions in timber events such as log rolling and wood chopping, sporting dogs, bass fishing, fly fishing, archery, rifle and shotgun shooting.
