The Reno City Council has scrapped plans to retrofit the National Bowling Stadium and connect it to a new events center.
The project would have added meeting rooms and allowed the bowling lanes to be changed into a ballroom.
The idea was to get more use out of the stadium, which sits dark 18 months out of every three years.
But the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority said it is negotiating with the Women's International Bowling Congress to hold a tournament here two out of every three years.
Officials said moving ahead with the plan was premature until the bowling congress makes a decision.
Though the retrofit has been canceled, plans for the convention center continue. That project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
