Reno Man Arrested In Metal Thefts

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $40,000 worth of steel and aluminum from two local metal manufacturing companies.

Washoe County sheriff's deputies said John Burke of Reno was arrested Wednesday at his residence and booked for investigation of possession of stolen property and grand larceny.

He's accused of stealing more than 3,000 pounds of high-grade stainless steel and 1,000 pounds of aluminum from the companies, one in Reno and the other in Verdi.

The sheriff's office began investigating the case in May when the businesses reported a number of thefts had taken place since January.
