A small wildfire threatened homes near the golf course at Montreux Golf & Country Club Thursday before firefighters circled the blaze.
The quarter-acre fire burned private land along Bonnie Lane bordering the southeast corner of the golf course that will host the PGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open next week.
Firefighters had established a hose line around the fire by mid-afternoon, a spokesman from the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center in Minden told the Reno-Gazette Journal.
The spokesman said homes no longer were threatened by the fire.
The golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus is on the southern edge of Reno, located just south of the Mount Rose Highway connecting Reno to Lake Tahoe.
Firefighters were on the scene are from Nevada Division of Forestry, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
