A 24-year-old man from American Somoa apparently drowned in the frigid waters of Lake Tahoe over the weekend, authorities said.
The victim's name was withheld pending notification of family members.
El Dorado County sheriff's deputies said they received a report of a possible drowning after the man dived late Saturday afternoon into Tahoe near the Ski Run Marina and soon slipped out of sight.
Authorites later located the victim on the lake's sandy floor in about 18 feet of water and recovered him.
But efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.
Earlier in the week, a man died and and his missing wife was presumed dead after a boat capsized on Tahoe's east shore, spilling nine people in the water.
