Sheriff's deputies are being tight-lipped about a dead body found yesterday on a hill above Caughlin Ranch.

The body was discovered on Sunday at about 3:30 p.m. near a forest service road, about three miles from the intersection of Sierra Pine Drive and Pine Haven Road.

Sheriff's deputies have given us very little details about the condition of the body, although they did say they do not believe it was a homicide.

They say a hiker who was walking his dog on the hill Sunday stumbled across the body, and immediately called the police.

When the body was taken down from the the hill by search and rescue workers, it took seven men to lift it into the coroner's van. Rescue workers say it was a man they found, and along with him, a blue Adidas gym bag. What's inside of it remains a mystery.

Neighbors like Melissa Grant who live in the Caughlin Ranch area say all the emergency vehicles were alarming.

"It's frightening. I don't know. I just thought it was kids. I never thought something like this could happen," said Grant.

She says the old forest service road is well-traveled. Several clearings on the path show evidence of heavy use, including bonfires, shotgun shells and old car batteries.

"Just a lot of kids partying, shooting. There are a lot of gunshots that go off up there. I see cars all times of the night, going up and down," said Grant.

Search and rescue workers didn't know how long the body had been on the hill, but say it was still easily recognizable. A coroner's assistant on scene held a man's California Driver's license, and talked about a pocket knife found with the body.

Sheriff's deputies today say if you live in the Caughlin Ranch area, not to worry. There were no obvious signs on the man's body of foul play. The man pictured in the photo on the California driver's license looked to be in in his mid-fifties with gray hair, and he was heavy set. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Search and Rescue workers say they're looking into any recent missing person's cases involving men in our area and surrounding areas in recent months. So far, they've given us no details about the progress of their investigation.
