Sparks police were investigating a suspected homicide at an apartment building Thursday and searching for a teenager who was seen fleeing the scene.

Sparks officers responded to the Parkside Garden Apartments at 1800 Sullivan Lane at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday after a neighbor reported hearing gunfire.

Police said they found a man in the apartment who apparently had been shot to death.

Investigators couldn't tell initially if they were dealing with a suicide or a killing, but they later said they were treating it as a homicide. They were looking for a male teenager who was seen running from the area.

Neighbors reported the Hispanic teen with a shaved head jumped from the second floor balcony shortly after they heard the gunshots.

Police said they have not been able to identify the victim. He appears to have suffered at least one gunshot wound to the head.
