Douglas County investigators have now released the name of the homeowner, who shot and killed an intruder over the weekend.

His name is 52-year-old Charles Cryderman from Gardnerville.

Authorities say 40-year-old Walter Hetrick from Antioch, California was shot several times while trying to break into a home on Log Cabin Road Saturday night.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the homeowner called police around 11:30 and told them that someone was trying to enter his home.

When police arrived, they found Hetrick lying inside the home. He was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead about an hour after police found him.

"The homeowner feared for his life and that's why he took the actions he took," said Lt. Mike Biaggini. of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

No charges are expected to be filed in this case.
