The Sparks City Council has approved a $50,000 settlement with the family of a man who was shot and killed as he sped away from Sparks Municipal Court.
Ian Dunwoodie, 21, was shot Jan. 28 by sheriff's Deputy Luke Miller after he fled a court appearance for disturbing the peace, dragging a security guard underneath his car.
District Attorney Richard Gammick determined the shooting was justified.
Dunwoodie's family filed a wrongful death suit in June against Sparks, the deputy and Washoe County.
Steven Dunwoodie, the man's father, said the family settled the case with Sparks because they believe the deputy and Washoe County are more to blame for their son's death.
