As many as 500,000 classic car enthusiasts from across the country are expected to attend northern Nevada's biggest special event this week.
Hot August Nights is expected to pump $90 million into the local economy during an eight-day run that began Sunday.
The event features thousands of cars from the 1950s,'60s and'70s that take part in parades, cruises and other events.
New this year is an event for fixed-up big truck rigs. They will be displayed at the Alamo Travel Center in Sparks, and will cruise through downtown Reno Friday and Saturday.
Reno-area casinos are poised for a lucrative week as rooms have been sold-out for weeks.
At the Reno Hilton, room rates will range from $199 to $219 per night Thursday through Saturday, about $50 to $100 higher than a normal summer weekend.
Rooms at the Atlantis Casino Resort are going for $200 to $280 per night this weekend. Normal rates this time of year usually don't exceed $100.
