A suspected burglar was fatally shot by a homeowner after breaking into a Gardnerville home, authorities said.
Douglas County sheriff's deputies said they received a 911 call late Saturday night from the homeowner that a man was trying to break into the home.
The man was shot after entering the Log Cabin Road home a short time later, deputies said.
He was taken to Carson Valley Emergency Care Center, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy was planned for the man, whose name was being withheld pending notification of family members. The homeowner's name also was not released.
No charges have been filed and an investigation into the 11:25 p.m. shooting continues, deputies said. The case is expected to be reviewed by prosecutors.
