A nine-year-old Sun Valley girl has died of injuries sustained when she and her brother were struck by a passing SUV in Sun Valley Wednesday afternoon.
Washoe sheriffs deputies say the pair had been pushing a bike on the shoulder of the roadway near the interesection of Sun Valley Blvd. and Eight Avenue when they were struck.
The girls' 8-year-old brother was injured in the same accident and was taken to the hospital by his mother. Both children live in the area.
Deputies say the initial investigation shows the Toyota 4-Runner, driven by a 48-year-old Sparks woman, left the roadway and ran onto the shoulder of the road before striking the children.
No citations have been issued. A Sheriff's Office sergeant said the investigative results will be turned over to the District Attorney's office in order to determine if charges will be brought as a result of the accident.
