Reno Cafe Epitome Of Home Cooking
It's not every day you get a great meal; good service and a lesson in family values all at the same restaurant, but a Reno business offers just that to its customers six days a week.

Most people like to keep their work and home lives separate, but combining them has been a recipe for success for one local family who runs a Reno restaurant that serves up good food and family values.

There's nothing like a good home cooked meal, but it's also nice to go out every once and a while. You can enjoy the best of both worlds at Daughters Cafe in Reno where a family of three serves food straight from their kitchen to your table.

Barb Giacomini doesn't have to go very far to start her day at work. While most of us bike, drive or take the bus she simply gets out of bed and heads down the stairs into the office: her kitchen.

"It's wonderful," said Giacomini. "I just come downstairs for the morning and turn everything on and just prepare for the family party that day."

Giacomini has run Daughters Cafe out of her home for the past two years. Barb does most of the cooking; her oldest Skye takes care of the paperwork; and her youngest Bianca handles the serving.

"We're enjoying it," said Bianca. "I just wouldn't want to do anything else."

But that doesn't mean it's easy. All three women work 12 to 14 hours, six days a week with little help from anybody else. The changing menu of family favorites keeps customers coming back, but so does the story of this small family running a business on its own.

"(Customers) tell me that they feel better having eaten here," said Barb. "It wasn't just that they were hungry and they got full. They went away feeling a little bit like their lives were changed."

At a time when economic struggles and closing businesses dominate the headlines, Barb Giacomini and her two daughters are proving that while money means a lot, family and friendship mean more.

"We might not get rich here," said Barb. "But I really just don't care. This is what we want this to be. My daughters and I. And it feels comfortable for us and it feel comfortable for the customers."

Daughter's Cafe is on the corner of Bell and West First Streets right near downtown Reno.

It's open six days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Cafe specialized in hosting special events for other families.

I went there yesterday, Sunday, and had the brunch. The baked eggs were awesome and I got to eat one of the Apple Dumplings that the video shows them making! Yummy!!!
