Firefighters were close to conquering a grass and sage fire northwest of Winnemucca and were making headway Monday against a 2,700-acre fire in Elko County.
The 300-acre McKinnich fire 38 miles northwest of Winnemucca was sparked by lightning Sunday afternoon.
It was 85 percent contained early Monday and firefighters expected to have it controlled by nightfall, officials said.
In Elko County, the Goshute Peak fire was started Thursday by lightning.
About 150 firefighters remained on that blaze, which was 50 percent contained Monday and burning in grass, sagebrush, pinion and juniper.
Full containment was anticipated Tuesday, said Bill Roach with the Interagency Dispatch Center in Elko.
No homes were threatened by either fire.
