Gang Member Convicted of Murder

An admitted gang member who, Reno police say, shot and killed a man last summer has been convicted of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon.

Jorge Romero shot Juan Bettencourt on the corner of Yori and Stoddard Streets on July 24th of last year. Bettencourt died 2 days later.

Bettencourt had no gang affiliation and authorities believe he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 27th.
