Guinn Requests Disaster Relief for Nevada Wildfires

Gov. Kenny Guinn today sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns requesting him to declare a disaster designation of Elko, Humboldt, and Lincoln counties based on extensive damage from wildfires. The disaster declaration would open the door for farmers and ranchers in the counties to apply for federal assistance through one of three programs: Emergency Conservation, Emergency Loan Assistance, and Emergency Protection.
More than 1.5 million acres of land in Nevada has been devoured by wildland fires in the past four months, about 300,000 of which is privately owned.
