Washoe Sheriff's deputies are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman in a rural home north of Sparks.
The bodies were discovered on Lost Springs Road off Winnemucca Ranch Road in Palomino Valley.
First we should say all indications are this was a murder-suicide as the investigation is continuing and information has been extremely slow in coming from the Sheriff's office today.
However we believe it will turn out to be a tragic story of a homicide and then a suicide.
It was a neighbor who called who called Sheriff's deputies to a rural home in Palomino Valley shortly after 10 this morning. She had just talked by phone with an 81-year-old man who lived there with his wife.
Exactly what he said hasn't been released, but it made her call 911 immediately.
Inside the home at the end of the road, they found the bodies of the man and a woman. Indications are he shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself. The family cat had also been shot and killed.
What prompted the tragic sequence of events wasn't immediately known. Investigators are talking with friends who knew them. There are reports the two had been ill.
The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin and autopsies are scheduled to determine an official cause of death.
It's belived the couple had no family in the Reno area.
The Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation at this time.
