In Washoe District Court today, a plea of not guilty was entered for accused murderer Darren Mack. The plea was entered by Judge Douglas Herndon on behalf of the defendant at the request of his attorneys.
The move preserves an issue that they plan to argue in a writ of habeas corpus seeking to have charges against Mack dismissed. The writ which will be filed sometime in the next month will argue Mack's constitutional rights were violated when Reno Justice Court Judge Ed Dannon declined to order a mental competency examination for him. Mack's attorneys will also argue there is insufficient evidence to charge their client.
The wealthy Reno businessman is accused of the stabbing death of his ex-wife and the sniper shooting of the judge who handled their divorce.
A trial date of Oct 1st, 2007 has been set.
