A bell tolled in Fernley on Monday for the victims of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks.
The bell also tolled for the parents and wives of Nevada soldiers killed in action in Afghanistan and Iraq. Gold Star Mother Charlene McCartin says their efforts should not be forgotten.
"If it wasn't for them over there, we couldn't fly the flag that we fly," McCartin says. "Or have the freedoms that we have...and everybody needs to remember that. Remember the heros who are still there...the ones who have fallen, and the ones who are home in everyday service among us..."
The ceremony ended with the traditional 21 Gun Salute, and the playing of taps.
