Free Bus Service in Jeopardy

Officials say free bus service around downtown Reno could be in jeopardy unless more funding is found to help
support it.
The Sierra Spirit bus runs between downtown and the University
of Nevada, Reno.
Regional Transportation Commission officials want the City
Council to establish a downtown tax district to help pay for the
service.
But that would require the consent of major downtown casino
owners. Mayor Bob Cashell says unless Circus Circus, Silver Legacy,
Eldorado and Harrah's are on board, he won't support it.
The R-T-C wants 300-thousand dollars a year to cover a third of
Sierra Spirit's 1 (m) million annual cost. The rest is covered by
sales taxes.
