Boat Building Brings Families Together

It's not just dogs and logs out at the ESPN Great Outdoor Games this week.

Two local families, a father and son and a mother and daughter are
building row boats - from scratch.

Both families are apprentice carpenters, part-of the Alexandria
Seaport Foundation. That's a non-profit group that uses wooden boat building as a catalyst to help people find direction and purpose in their lives.
"What we're trying to do is show the community more or less what can happen in 16 to 20 hours at home on a Saturday or Sunday for a family who wants to build something that's already pre-fab," says Josh and Randy Keeney of Lemmon Valley.

The two families will launch their boats, to see if they float, out at the Outdoor Games on Sunday.
