A local business owner is hoping he started a new trend.

The owner of Cathexes sustainable architecture company introduced the very first wind turbine to downtown Reno. The 65-foot-tall structure is located on Bell Street, between Second and Third.

Once the wind picks up to more than ten miles per hour, the turbine's propellers begin to spin, generating enough energy to help Don Clark pay his power bill.

"What I am hoping to see is a downtown completely powered by renewable energy. Where there isn't a drop of oil, a lump of coal that it takes to have all the lights on in a casino, houses lit, everything. That is what I want to see," said Cathexes owner, Don Clark.

Cathexes is also one of the first businesses in downtown Reno to earn a financial incentive from Nevada Energy's Wind Generations program.

Customers who generate power using turbines can earn up to $2.50 per watt. Nevada Energy spokesman Karl Lundquist says for Clark, that could mean a rebate of about $6,000.
