Families Celebrate Father's Day

Fathers day

Sunday was Father's Day and a number of local dads spent the day along the Truckee River in Wingfield Park.

It was all part of the "Father's Day Riverfest 2003." This is a Father's Day stroll through the park - with a twist.

"Father's Day Riverfest 2003" included live music from John Eddie, a bounce house that kids couldn't get enough of, face painting, and even Cuddles the Clown with her games and balloons.

"We're gonna put on the rollerblades and put him in the carrier and come down here and let him wear himself out and wear myself out at the same time," said dad Ron Nelson.

Dads we talked to say they're taking their day in stride.

"Maybe we'll go out to dinner and go to bed early," said father Eric Goodfellow.

Said Dave Chapman: "We're just hanging out for Father's Day. Letting mom take a break with the little baby".

So the day was about sipping on snowcones . . . sitting in the sun . . . singing to the music . . . and an occasional balloon sword fight.

But what does Father's Day really mean to moms and dads?

"It's a celebration of having a child and a family and sharing the time together," said mother Elizabeth Korinek.

"Father's day is all about family. We spent the morning with my parents and had the siblings over and their kids. IT's just a great time to get together and do family things."

We at KOLO-TV News Channel 8 hope all the dads out there had a happy Father's Day.
