The Nevada Highway Patrol is crediting an alert driver with helping remove a dangerous driver from the road late this morning.
It all began when Don Alexander noticed he was sharing the road with an erratic driver on U-S 395 in Washoe Valley late this morning.
"He was weaving all over the road and changing lanes. So I dialed Alexander stayed behind the driver ready to report anything else. Soon he wasn't the only one.
"We picked him up south of the Mount Rose junction," says NHP Sgt. Balir Harkleroad. "He wouldn't pull over."
So, with other NHP units joining the man led officers on a slow speed chase...about 50 miles an hour...for 9 miles up 395 before finally being forced to the side of the road near the Moana exit.
The man refused a field sobriety test, but was booked on a number of other charges including resisting arrest. He was also wanted on criminal warrants out of Las Vegas. He's in jail tonight.
The alert motorist who phoned it in says he's just happy the man is off the road.
"He could have injured himself, myself, any other driver or any pedestrian that happened by."
Sgt. Harkleroad applauded the action. He says officers encourage motorists to report hazardous driving and appreciate the calls when they get them."
