The Reno City Council is moving forward with its plans to design a public plaza at the site of the former Mapes Hotel.

The city council has narrowed its search for a design team for the downtown Reno site to four finalists.

Hargreaves Associates, SVWB Architects, Sasaki, and Peter Walker and Partners were selected from 21 applicants.

The four design firms will now compete for a contract to design the site along the Truckee River into a plaza with fountains and trees.

The site has remained empty since the Mapes was blown up on
January 20th, 2000 over the objections of historic preservationists.
