Woman's Body Found in Alley Near Downtown

Reno Police are currently investigating the death.

Detectives don't have much to go on at this hoour, including knowing the identity of the woman. They hope to get some more leads from the public.

Police found the the woman's body around 8:30 a.m. Monday in an alley.
It was partially covered with a sleeping bag and left in a shopping cart.

Investigators can't say how long it had been there. They did not find an identification with the body but they are comparing the woman's fingerprints with those in the missing person's and criminal database.

Police checked out bullet casings in front of the Dilligas bar, and they kept the scene taped off for nearly 4 hours. Witnesses say the woman had bruises on her face, but police are waiting for the autopsy results to declare a cause of death.

A couple of witnesses at the scene said they had seen this woman alive as late as Friday.

Police say the woman was between 35 and 45-years-old, a Caucasian woman with short brown hair. She was wearing denim shorts and a red t-shirt with the Statue of Liberty on the front.

The woman also had a distinctive tattoo on the right side of her upper back - the image of a topless woman.
