Washoe District Family Court Judge Chuck Weller has returned to work, two months after being shot through the window in his chambers.
He marked his return yesterday (Wednesday) by inviting family
court lawyers to join him for lunch in his courtroom to discuss
ways to improve a system often criticized by some as unfair and
Darren Mack is accused of killing his estranged wife and then
shooting Weller, who was handling their bitter divorce.
Weller was subsequently criticized for his work in family court
and by some lawyers, through a Washoe Bar Association survey.
But many of the 50 lawyers who attended Weller's lunch gathering
said the criticisms are misguided, and discussed ways to ease
emotion and tension in family courts.
