Nevada Republican Party Chairman PaulAdams is drawing criticism from members of the late Kathy Augustine's family for callous remarks they say he made while she was in a coma last month.
They also criticized him at a news conference in Carson City
today for trying to block the impeached, former state controller's
candidacy for state treasurer last summer at the state G-O-P
convention.
Augustine's cousin, Dion Gazzaruso of Sylmar, California, says
the callousness and cruelty displayed by Adams was shocking. She
says that while Augustine was hospitalized, Adams said, quoting
now, "I wish her a long life, just not as a Republican
candidate."
Authorities originally reported that the 50-year-old Augustine
died of a heart attack. But police are awaiting a toxicology report
for the FBI before determining a cause of death.
Adams apologized for any remarks that Augustine's family felt
was hurtful. He told the Reno Gazette-Journal that he understands
the family is upset and he understands their pain but has no
further comment.
