The protestors outside the state legislative building actually outnumbered the lawmakers inside by about five to one. They were speaking for businesses, unions, healthcare groups...and some of them, just for themselves.

For many, it was a case of déjà vu. Some marched in an identical protest back in June, but this time, they braved the bitter cold.

State employees were among the demonstrators, people who say they go to work every day in fear of losing their job, or worse.

"I've heard rumors they might cut our salary. I don't know. I don't know if it's just rumors or what," said Charlotte Kern, who's worked for the state for 25 years.

Others were there to tell legislators what more budget cuts would mean to them.

For some, it translates to a loss of employment or healthcare...each of them with a personal story.

"If they cut money, it makes it really hard on me. That would cut my medications and stuff. I need my meds because I am dyslexic," said Tim Eernisse of Fallon.

PLAN director Bob Fulkerson says budget cuts are not the answer, but a tax increase just might be. He says it's time to put the weight on the rich...and give the poor, the elderly, and the vulnerable, a break.

"If you look at all the states that border Nevada, every single one of them has a corporate profit tax. Not Nevada," said Fulkerson.

Others proposed a new stimulus package, not one that involves free money, but instead, the creation of new jobs. They say Nevada's tax structure is corrupt, and it's time for a new direction.

"Do away with the system. Let's start all over again," said Richard Haber, of Industrial Workers of the World.

At one point, many of the protestors even went inside the legislative building. Lawmakers were on a lunch break, and were able to spend some one on one time with some of the demonstrators, opening up some dialogue they felt was long overdue.
