The attorney for wealthy Reno pawnshop owner Darren Mack is asking that all Washoe County district judges and justices of the peace be removed from his client's case.
Mack is accused of killing his estranged wife and shooting the
judge who was presiding over their divorce.
Scott Freeman says the judges are good judges, but they also are
human beings who are well aware that Mack is accused of the June
12th sniper shooting of Family Count Judge Chuck Weller.
Freeman wants the Nevada Supreme Court to assign a judge from
another district to the case.
Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Robert Daskas and
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Lalli are prosecuting the
case. Daskas said he has not seen the petition and could not
comment.
Washoe District Chief Judge Jerry Polaha said he had not read
the motion, but said the next step is to allow the prosecutors to
respond.
If the judges in this district remove themselves, he says the
Nevada Supreme Court would assign a new judge.
