Senate Panel Backs Plan for Baseball Stadium

By  |

A Senate committee has endorsed plans to finance a minor league baseball stadium in Sparks.

On a 6-1 vote, the Senate Government Affairs Committee voted to approve a two percent tax on rental car contracts to finance the $40 million stadium near the Sparks Marina.

Backers of the effort say a stadium would help lure a AAA team to the Reno area and anchor a retail and residential project proposed near the stadium.

The bill now moves to the full Senate before going to the Assembly.

If approved and signed by the governor, it would require the backing of the Washoe County Commission.
