Spanish on Ballots a Hot Topic

Registrar of Voters Dan Burke says he has received complaints because sample ballots for the primary election were printed in both English and Spanish.

He says he is just complying with federal election laws that require bilingual ballots, if a certain minority group accounts for at least 20 percent of a county's population. Washoe is 21 percent Hispanic.

Critics of bilingual ballots say good citizenship means the ability to read and write in English.
