Carson Bypass Bids Now Open

The bidding process opens today for contractors to build the second phase of the Carson City bypass.

The $88 million, three-year project would complete the first four-and-a-half miles of the freeway that will eventually connect the north end of Carson City with the Lake Tahoe junction of US 50.

Bids will be sought for seven weeks before officials choose a contractor in July for construction, which is expected to start by September.

The first stage, completed in 2001, cost $14 million and included construction of four bridges over Northgate Lane, College Parkway, and Arrowhead and Emerson drives.
