Reno Man Critical Following Bar Shooting

Reno Police are also investigating a late-night shooting at a South Virginia Street bar - an incident that's left a local man with serious injuries.

Apparently started with a bar room argument, and a drunk and beligerent customer being asked to leave.

He did, but he returned with a friend and the friend was armed.

Witnesses say the man uttered a threat when leaving the first time. Whatever his intention, when he returned he was told to leave again.

There was an argument, another altercation. A woman customer was punched in the face.

Several people in the bar jumped on the man, beating him. That's when his friend, who had apparently been standing outside the door, drew a weapon and fired.

The bullet struck a customer, Timothy "TJ" Canfield, in the back, the bullet tearing through his liver and kidney. He's listed in critical condition at Washoe Medical Center at this hour.

Meanwhile, investigators were putting together the sequence of events that led to the shooting and attempting to locate a barful of witnesses.

If you can help you're asked to call the Reno Police Department or Secret Witness. Secret Witness has posted a $2,000 reward for information leading to arrest and prosecution.

At this point police only have a vague description of the gunman as a black male. He was apparently outside the bar during the entire incident.

But witnesses had a much better look at the other man. He was in the bar twice.

He had never been in the bar before, but a woman who accompanied him during his first visit was a regular. Police are trying to locate her now. She should be able to identify him and that should lead them to the gunman.

If the two of suspects involved went to the bar intending to make good on a threat, there's an element of conspiracy that could lead to charges against both. Otherwise, the most they might be able to charge the man who caused this whole incident, would be a simple charge of battery - relating to the fight.
